This is
the second part of a series of three write-ups by
Dr. D. Banerji, a well-known Public Health
Specialist and Social Scientist of
post-Independent India on "Indias
Forgotten People and the Sickness of the Public
Health Service System: A Prescription for the
Malady". These articles summarises a larger
report on the same topic, consisting of 83
chapters, running into 1400 computer pages. This
report analyses all the major health concerns of
the people from a historical perspective and
dwells deep into various issues in order to carve
out some pragmatic ideas for action. The first
article appeared in the May-June 1997 issue of
HFM and the third will appear in the
September-October issue.
