Health in Nepal: Realities and Challenges, has been specially prepared for those working and interested in health issues in Nepal, either independently or in affiliation with the government and non-governmental organisations. Nepal has a diverse topography. Its socioeconomic development and availability and accessibility to health resources are also unequal. Therefore, national average of health indicators do not really reflect ground realities. Use of these national statistics for district level planning can be irrational, resulting in the failure to achieve desired goals. Unfortunately, very little information about the districts are available, spread in several documents, making it difficult for the users to locate. With this in the background, the present book has attempted to compile relevant information into a single document providing a unique opportunity to retrieve and to compare the informations between districts easily.
The first part of the book critically analyses health and development issues in Nepal including national health related statistics, concerns of decentralized health planning, prospects of Ayurveda, and health policy issues. the second part provides information on morbidity, mortality, demography, along with district map showing health facilities of all 75 districts of the country.
The book is published at a time when the nation is preparing a second long-term, decentralised and sustainable health plan. Therefore, it is hoped that the volume will be a useful document for planners, policy-makers, managers, researchers and others interested in health issues in Nepal.

Diabetes - Understanding the Disease is one among the "Healthwise Series" books brought out by VHAI for public education. Other topics in this series are Cancer, Heart Diseases, Asthma & Respiratory Diseases, Joint Pain & Arthritis and Digestive Disorders & Jaundice. Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disorder affecting about 10 per cent of urban and 2 per cent of rural population in India. Though diabetes has a long way to go before it can catch up with the leading killers of mankind, it scores over them when it comes to myths. Popular understanding of the disease, including risk factors, preventive measures, treatment etc. is very limited. In order to bridge the gap VHAI has developed this authentic material to provide the readers with ready answers to their questions in a very simple, easy to understand style.
