organisation dedicated to the welfare of children and
young adults with diabetes. Within India, Sri Tapobrate

Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in
India (RSSDI)
RSSDI, founded in 1972 by a group of eminent
teachers of the country, is the largest diabetes
education, training and research organization supported
by 930 clinicians and researchers as life members
representing all Indian States and Union Territories.
Continuing Medical Education : CME
programmes are organised by RSSDI and offers a Post
Graduate course in Diabetology. RSSDI also offers a
Diabetes Consensus Development Programme for providing
physicians with a current consensus statement in 1997 on
diagnosis, follow-up, targets, screening for
complications, management and education.
DIABETES BULLETIN - the quarterly
journal of RSSDI, is the International Journal of
Diabetes in Developing Countries. Further details are available from

Diabetes Research
Forum
On the 25th Anniversary of the RSSDI, Prof.
M.M.S. Ahuja has launched the Diabetes Research Forum.
The objectives of the Forum will be to design research
projects which would reflect national characteristics of
diabetes mellitus in India, to seek overseas
inter-liaison for collaboration and cooperative research
on Asian Indians and to provide financial support for
research projects.
Life membership is Rs 1500 and corporate membership
payment Rs 100,000 to be sent to the Secretariat in

The International
Diabetes Federation
The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is
the global advocate for people with diabetes. Working in
collaboration with the World Health Organization and
other affiliated organizations and individuals, the IDF
is engaged in a worldwide effort to ensure the
availability of quality care, essential drugs, education,
and appropriate modes of treatment for people with
diabetes.
Today, the IDF has a membership of 137 national diabetes
associations in 111 countries also has individual memebrs
- for people who are concerned with diabetes, persoanally
or professionally. It acts as the voice of its members,
associations and individuals, in the international
community.
