The Servants of the People Society was
founded by Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai and inaugurated
at Lahore in 1921 by Gandhiji. It is a life order. Only
those who donate their whole life to the service of the
people of the country can become its members. It had
illustrious Life Members like Purushottamdas Tandon.
Balvantray Mehta and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Prime
Minister of India. 1964-66. With its headquarters at
Delhi, the Society is dedicated to the service of the
people in more than 16 States.
Looking at the resources of the country in money and
manpower, it was considered that the objective of
"Health for All by 2000 AD" could not be
achieved without popularising Nature Cure and Yoga and
without involving children at the school level. A Nature
Cure and Yoga Health Centre was started in Delhi in
October 1983. This centre has made lot of progress and
has become extremely popular. One of the objectives of
the centre is to publish books on this subject. Our first
book is English, to serve as a basic primer on the
subject, was published in 1988. This book "Back to
Nature for HEALTHY LIVING" was released by Shri
Rajiv Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, on 23rd
August 1988. That book is now in its sixth edition. Food
therapy is the most important part of health culture, so
a new 264 page book on "Food therapy is the most

Health" was published in July 1991, It is a unique
book on nutrition. It deals extensively with all aspects
of some of the most important food items. It also deals
with food as preventive medicine for various body
conditions. Next came booklets dealing with nature cure
of diseases of High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Asthma,
Arthritis and for some womens conditions. A book on
Healthy Aging came out in October 1995. Govt. of India on
16.10.95. It was followed by a book on EXERCISE as
indicated by experts in early 1996.
The children make the future of the country. For a
healthy nation we must start with the health of the
children and involve them in this behalf through their
schools. A " School Health Manual" was brought
out for that purpose in October 1996.
Publishing of the above mentioned books left out the
special handling of the subject of raising of healthy
children only. This book deals with that subject and is
addressed to the mothers. It has been complied from the
scientific data available on this subject in a way that
persuades them to join in the mainstream of healthy
living and healthy raising.
This book has been complied by Shri A P Dewan who is a
retired I.A.S. Officer and who had been with the World
Food Programme of UN/FAO for more than 14 years. He is
now the Chairman of our Nature Cure Centre and has been
nominated as a member of the Governing Body of the
National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune, by Government of
India. Nobody other than our charitable society has
financial interest in this book.
